Статья посвящена попыткам исторического осмысления развития учебного заведения за более чем 100 летнюю деятельность Первого Санкт-Петерьургского государственного медицинского университета имени академика Павлова. Автор подробно останавливается на попытках первых исторических очерков о развитии медицинского института, используя архивный и музейный материал и особенно различные юбилейные издания. Обобщая материал, автор отмечает, что только период первых 20 лет достаточно хорошо проанализирован и предстоит трудоёмкая работа по дальнейшему написанию истории ПСПбГМУ им. ак. И.П. Павлова.

The article is devoted to attempts of understanding the historical development of educational institution the «Pavlov First Saint Petersburg State Medical University» for more than 100 years of its activity.The author particularly describes the first tries of inner historical researches into the development of the medical institute, with use of archive, museum materials and especially different anniversary publications. In conclusion, the author notes that only the period of 1897–1917 is sufficiently analyzed. Later history of the university still awaits its extensive study.
