<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>Human carbonic anhydrase isoforms IX and XII play a key role in maintaining acid-base balance in solid tumors, creating a favorable microenvironment for the growth, invasion and metastasis of tumor cells. In the last few years, a number of scientific groups have published results that inhibition of isoforms IX and XII significantly increases the effectiveness of classical chemotherapy, makes it possible to suppress the resistance of tumor cells to chemotherapy and increase their sensitivity to the used drugs (including reducing the dose of cytostatics). In the review, we analyzed the scientific literature on the role of carbonic anhydrase isoforms IX and XII in carcinogenesis and on the combined effect of carbonic anhydrase inhibitors with antitumor drugs.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>ингибиторы карбоангидраз</kwd><kwd>сульфонамиды</kwd><kwd>онкологические заболевания</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>carbonic anhydrase inhibitors</kwd><kwd>sulfonamides</kwd><kwd>oncological diseases</kwd></kwd-group><funding-group xml:lang="ru"><funding-statement>Работа выполнена при поддержке Российского научного фонда (проект № 21-73-20264 «Комплексный подход к разработке адъювантных агентов на основе ингибиторов IX изоформы карбоангидразы человека для комбинированной терапии онкологических заболеваний»).</funding-statement></funding-group><funding-group xml:lang="en"><funding-statement>The work was supported by the Russian Science Foundation (project № 21-73-20264 “The integrated approach to the development of adjuvant agents based on inhibitors IX of human carbonic anhydrase isoform for combination therapy of oncological diseases”.</funding-statement></funding-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Neri D., Supuran C.
